Abstract:
The invention relates to a portable handheld device for detecting the presence of cardiac biomarkers in a sample of bodily fluid, comprising a test strip comprising an aptamer capable of binding to a cardiac biomarker when the test strip is contacted with a sample of bodily fluid from a patient;wherein the test strip is configured to provide a visual change based on its contact with the sample of bodily fluid; wherein the presence of a visual change is indicative of binding of the aptamer in the test strip with a cardiac biomarker in the sample of bodily fluid from the patient; and wherein the device further comprises a standard chart or key for interpreting a visual change on the test strip. The cardiac biomarkers can be selected from C-reactive protein, Creatinine Kinase, TroponinT, Myoglobin, IL-6, IL-18, Brain Natriuretic Peptide, and D-Dimer.
