To enhance the toughness of a cubic BN sintered compact without deteriorating the wear resistance.
This cubic BN sintered compact consists of 30-95vol.% cubic BN and the balance bonding phase, TiB2, AlN, at least one kind of optional compd. selected from among Al2O3, carbides, nitrides, carbonitrides and borides of iron family metals and groups IVa, Va and VIa elements of the periodic Table other than Ti and inevitable impurities. The bonding phase consists of carbides, nitrides or carnbonitrides of Ti and at least one of groups IVa, Va and VIa elements of the Periodic Table other than Ti. It has peaks of two kinds of B1 type crystal structures at an interval of 0.1-1.0° on the same diffraction plane by X-ray diffraction measurement using CuKα1 lines and the ratio (IL/IH) of peak intensity IL on the lower angle side to peak intensity IH on the higher angle side of >0 to <4.
