Abstract:

PURPOSE: To make possible the efficiently performing continuous production of algae and reduce the production cost of algae product by culturing algae using silicone.

CONSTITUTION: The objective culturing system cultures algae using silicone. Silicone material has a hydrophobic surface and readily passes algae even in solution containing a high concentration of the algae. The growing speed of the algae is high even at above two times of usual algae concentration where the growth reduces in high concentration, because the objective culturing system has excellent air transmissible property. Although the shape of the silicone may be one fitting to cultivation of algae, a flat plate for large alga and a tubular type for fine alga are convenient. Although size of the tube is suitably adopted according to thickness of the tube, e.g. about 3.6×4.0mm is suitable for 100μ thickness. In a case of flat membrane, 300×300mm square is adopted and a bottom is reinforced with a mesh.
