A current limiting circuit 1 having an output short circuit protection function comprises an input current unit 10, a driving transistor 11, a voltage regulator resistor 12, a voltage regulator transistor 13, and a delay unit 14. The driving transistor 11 has a gate electrode G, a drain electrode D, and a source electrode S. The voltage regulator resistor 13 has a gate electrode G, a drain electrode D, a source electrode S, and a parasitic capacitance CP. When the load is shorted, the delay unit 14 charges the parasitic capacitance CP via the voltage regulator resistor 12 to reduce the internal resistance of the voltage regulator transistor 13 to less than the internal resistance of the driving transistor 11. A period in which the voltage regulator transistor 13 holds low internal resistance is extended to maintain the driving transistor 11 at high resistance in a constant cycle.
