To provide a cutter capable of coping with several kinds of strip workpieces having pilot holes different in pitch formed respectively, correctly and easily cutting each strip workpiece, and excellent in handleability, workability, economy, and the like.

The cutter 1 for use in a butt-joining device of a strip workpiece W for cutting the workpiece W having pilot holes Wa to be butt-welded comprises a female die body 9 having insertion holes 9a formed, right and left rectangular-prism-shaped lower cutting edges 10 detachably attached to an inner periphery of the insertion hole 9a of the female die body 9, and a male die 11 including right and left upper cutting edges 11a to be vertically movably inserted into the insertion hole 9a for cutting the workpiece W in cooperation with the right and left lower cutting edges 10. Each lower cutting edge 10 has all of ridges at four positions in the longitudinal direction formed on the cutting edge 10a, and each cutting edge 10a can be detachably mounted on the female die body 9 with its orientation varied to be capable of facing the right and left upper cutting edges 11a.
