PURPOSE: To provide a damping force control device for a shock absorber of a vehicle which is capable of achieving high-order compatibility of and safety operation even on an uneven road surface in consideration of the sense of human being.
CONSTITUTION: An arithmetic operation unit 8 extracts high-frequency component and low-frequency component of vibration of a car body from sprung mass acceleration, and the main elements are absolute speed DX of sprung mass and relative speed DY between sprung- and unsprung masses. When the signs of absolute corrected speed DXS of the sprung mass and relative corrected speed DYS are different from each other, low damping force is given, and when the signs are the same, high damping force is given. As the method of giving damping force, the greater the high-frequency component compared to the low-frequency component, the lower the damping force to be given. The damping force to be given is determined from the speed DXS and the speed DYS, and the high-frequency component and the low-frequency component to control an actuator 2 to adjust the damping force of a shock absorber 1.
