Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain a data compressing method that is performed by run-length coding which efficiently encodes the same character run that is less than three characters by using an echo code point. CONSTITUTION: Character width of data stream 10 is defined by a chopper 12 and its output is supplied to a spare compressor. Each compression of a data segment 14 decides whether or not user's data byte that is received in one of data segments is equal to the last byte of an n preceding data byte string or a single user's data bite in one data segment. Next, one of plural run length reference numbers is assigned to the user's data byte by using odd coding that is the same with at least an n preceding user's data byte. A data stream 22 which is doubly compressed in this way is then supplied to a processing theory 32 for transmission, storage, etc. As a result, it is possible to efficiently encode the same character run that is less than three characters.
