Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide a converter including a barrel selector for selecting a specific bit field in several possible bit fields for further operating a processing related with a data converter such as an encoder or a decoder. CONSTITUTION: A data converter (for example, 10, 90, and 92) for converting a signal from one form to another converts a signal from analog-to-digital, or from digital-to-analog form. This converter has an analog side and a digital sample side. A programmable barrel shift selector (for example, 34, or 80) at the digital sample side receives digital signal samples with a first bit field width, and selects a second bit field width as an output. The second bit field width is programmable over a certain range to selectively determine which bits in the first bit field are included in the second bit field.
