PURPOSE: To obtain a deoxidizing compsn. having a sufficiently high rate of oxygen absorption in the absence of moisture by using polyolefin, unsatd. fatty acid or oil contg. the unsatd. fatty acid and a metal catalyst.

CONSTITUTION: A deoxidizing compsn. is composed of polyolefin such as PE, unsatd. fatty acid such as linolic acid or oil contg. the unsatd. fatty acid such as soybean oil and a metal catalyst such as Co or Fe. The polyolefin keeps the compsn. solid, the unsatd. fatty acid absorbs oxygen and the metal catalyst accelerates the oxygen absorption reaction of the unsatd. fatty acid. Polyamide having oxygen absorbing property and making the solid compsn. porous, e.g., 6-nylon and a basic substance taking part in the increase of the rate of oxygen absorption, e.g., calcium hydroxide may further be added. The compsn. is obtd. as follows: the resins such as the polyolefin and polyamide are melted by heating and mixed with the unsatd. fatty acid, the metal catalyst and the basic substance and they are kneaded under heating.
