To provide a method for detecting a diabetes development risk factor in a subject to know the type of diabetes and, in the case of healthy person, foreseeing the presence or absence of diathesis which develops diabetes in the future and, in the case of contraction, the type of diabetes by detecting mutation of CD38 gene.
This method comprises detecting a diabetes development risk factor by detecting mutation of CD38 gene coding for CD38 which is an enzyme which produces and hydrolyzes cyclic ADP ribose which is the second messenger which promotes excretion of insulin by glucose stimulation in a pancreatic Langerhans' islet β cell. The site(s) where mutation is observed is (are) one ore more selected from the site coding for Arg-140 of CD38 protein encoded by CD38 gene, the site where coding for Ser-264 of the same protein, and guanine at -28 of intron 7.
