Abstract:

PURPOSE: To securely detect that misfire has occurred in any cylinder.

CONSTITUTION: Elapsed time T required for a crank shaft to rotate by a constant crank angle at the time of combustion of each cylinder is detected. Deviation ΔTn (=Tn-Tn-1) of elapsed time between cylinders where explosion cycles are adjacent to each other or deviation ΔTn' (=Tn-Tn-2) between cylinders where explosion cycles occur with one interval interposed is obtained. When the deviation ΔTn or ΔTn' exceeds a set value K or K' continuously twice, misfire is determined to have occurred in either cylinder.
