Title:
DEVICE FOR DETECTING NOZZLE FUNCTION IN INK JET PRINTER
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH10258503
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

To monitor quality of a pen marking on a medium and to control it by crossing a sample line drawn on an actual medium and scanning it optically.

In a printer 210, when a carriage assembly 300 moves relatively to a medium 230 along X-axis and Y-axis, a selected nozzle in inkjet printing cartridges 302, 304, 306 and 308 is actuated and ink is given to the medium 230. In addition, as scanning of an optical sensor 400 is made possible as a part of initial calibration, a sample line 240 is printed on the medium 230 before printing output is performed. In addition, the optical sensor 400 has two light sources like LED and by comparing relative positions along X-axis and Y-axis of corresponding nozzles in different print heads on the sample line 240, an actual offset in the vertical direction and an offset in the horizontal direction between two print heads are detected on a medium forwarding axis to detect nozzle function.
