PURPOSE: To effectively protect a sensor from a damage by arranging a sensor for monitoring the end position of the tongue rail of a switch, particularly, for diagnosing the wear and determining the timing of maintenance and inspection within the area range of a theoretical crossing point.
CONSTITUTION: A switch 1 for railway comprises a tongue rail 2, and a change- over driving means for the switch 1 is arranged in the area range of the end part of the tongue rail 2. A sensor (not shown) for detecting the minimum passage in a position distant from the end part of the tongue rail 2 is provided within this area range, and the sensor output is inputted to a judging circuit 5 through a conductor 4. Further, a sensor 18 is arranged within the area range of a crossing 8, and this sensor output is inputted to the judging circuit 5 through a conductor 9 to perform the wear diagnosis or the judgment of timing of maintenance and inspection. In this case, the sensor 18 is arranged within the area range of the theoretical crossing point so that the deviation of movement of a wheel in lateral direction and vertical direction can be measured.
