To provide an on-line handwritten character recognizing method which can easily cope with character recognition errors due to tightly handwritten characters.
This on-line handwritten character recognizing method, includes a trace storage step for storing a trace generated with a contacting and leaving pen, an analysis step for analyzing breakpoints of a character represented by trance, a character recognition step for recognizing the traces as a character according to the breakpoints, a recognized character display step for displaying the recognized character, a trace display step for displaying an input trace and a breakpoint, a breakpoint addition step (S260) for specifying an arbitrary trace among the traces displayed at the trace display step and adding a segment breakpoint at a position having cartain relation with the specified segment, and a character rerecognition step (S200) for re-recognizing the character, according to the added breakpoint.
