To search a motion vector of sub-integer pixel accuracy, at a high speed.
An intermediate pixel high-accuracy fast search algorithm in video coding is a hierarchical search method for motion estimation, which initially searches integer high-accuracy motion vector and then continues high-accuracy search on sub-pixels surrounding the reconstructed sub-pixels of the integer motion vector. For hierarchization, the algorithm first calculates the minimum integer pixel location and then performs a sub-integer pixel search. After obtaining the integer pixel value with the minimum MAD value, the conjugate intermediate pixel value is interpolated in a first direction. The algorithm determines which intermediate pixel value yields the lowest MAD value and then interpolates the conjugate intermediate pixel values, in a second direction from the minimum MAD intermediate pixel location which has already been calculated from the first direction.
