Abstract:
PURPOSE:To allow the operation to automatically break an optical fiber coating and efficiently remove the coating by lancing the coating of the optical fiber and applying a specified tension to the fiber to immerse the front end of the fiber into a swelling agent. CONSTITUTION:A clamp C2 is brought near to a clamp C1 by overcoming the force of a compression spring 16 and clamp retainers 2, 8 are opened to grip the optical fiber 11 by the two clamps C1, C2. The optical fiber is then pinched by a blade holder and the coating is lanced V by a blade 3. The swelling agent g, such as dichloromethane, is applied on the front end of the optical fiber 11 while the fiber is held clamped by the clamps C1 and C2. The coating is automatically ruptured in the lancing part V by the blade 3 when the swelling agent penetrates into the fiber up to the length of a specified range.
