Title:
DEVICE FOR OPTICALLY DETECTING INK SMALL DROP
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS5996969
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:
An ink jet printer is provided with means for detecting the clogging of a jet. At intervals, for example at the beginning of each line, or at the beginning of each new page, the print head (16) moves beyond the end of the print platen (14) and deposits dots on a rotating transparent disk (28). The dots are moved until each, in turn, is in line with an optical system comprising a light source (24), a lens (32), and a photo detector (26), which detects the presence or absence of a dot and gives a warning signal if a dot is missing, the disk (28) continues to rotate and carries the dots through an absorbent pad (52) where they are removed. In a modification, the transparent disk (28) may be replaced by a polished reflecting disk or drum, preferably of aluminium.
