PURPOSE: To make the removal work of the solidified metallic scale plate remained in the tundish of a continuous casting plant safe and extremely simple by forcing upward the metallic scale from the nozzle inside of the tundish with a metallic scale lifter, thereby stripping the same.
CONSTITUTION: The rod 11 with head of a metallic scale lifter 10 is inserted into the nozzle 4 of a tundish 1. A holder 12 fixes and supports the lifter 10 to its floor plate 13, and engages the hooks 14 pivotally and openably fitted to the plate 13 to the detaining plates 9 welded to both side shells 2 in the nozzle 4 part. Thereupon, when the lifter 10 is acted, the bottom end of the lifter 10 is fixed and supported onto the plate 13 by the engagement between the hooks 14 and the plates 9, and therefore the rod 11 ascends and forces the bottom surface of a metallic scale plate 8 upward, and strips the same from the tundish bottom. Thereafter, the metallic scale is removed from the tundish.
