To rapidly detect the occurrence of flashaback in order to perform a stop before a combustor is damaged by sensing the occurrence of the flashback by using a plurality of optical fibers and photodetectors.
A combustor 1 contains a plurality of flame nozzles 12a-12e to generate flame. The flame nozzles 12a-12e are monitored by using fiber optical elements 24a-24e containing optical fibers through which a light signal is sent to photodetectors 14a-14e. The photodetectors 14a-14e feed an electric signal to a multiplexer 18 and the multiplexer 18 transmits data to a signal processor 20 before the multiplexer is operated by a gas turbine controller and monitor 22. When light is detected by the photodetector 14a-14e at a level to indicate the presence of flame in a test region where no flame is present, the information is transmitted to the controller and monitor 22 through the signal process 20 and this way turns OFF the combustor 1.
