A prosthetic orthopaedic head (14) has a fluid chamber (30) defined therein. A fluid filter (48) is positioned in the fluid chamber. Synovial fluid can be advanced through a filter in response to a load being exerted on the prosthetic head, thereby removing debris from the synovial fluid.
