To provide a digital camera for preventing image data which must not be disclosed from being erroneously transmitted, in transmitting/receiving the image data to/from other digital cameras.
The digital camera (100) is provided with a memory card (108) in which image data of an object picked up by an image pickup device (102) are recorded; a file management table (124) for managing the image data recorded in the memory card (108) so that the image data correspond to file attribute information; a communication interface (110) for communicating with other digital cameras; and a transmission prohibition image designating key (114c) for adding a protective flag for prohibiting the transmission of the image data corresponding to arbitrary file attribute information in the table (124) to the file attribute information. A main CPU (118) reads out the image data from the memory card (108), and transmits the only image data in which a protective flag is not added to the file attribute information. Accordingly, only by adding a protective flag to the file attribute information of image data which must not be disclosed, the image data are not transmitted.
