In a digital content browsing management system 1, when character string search is made to character information in book-type digital content displayed on terminal equipment 4, a content distributor is allowed to confirm whether or not an area in content where the retrieved character string is displayed has been browsed by a user, using a server 2, and the retrieved character string is highlighted (marking image display). When a predetermined content browsing operation is performed as a result, it is decided that the retrieval result has been browsed, and the server 2 records and outputs the result of the retrieval result browsing.
