Abstract:
PURPOSE: To prevent the increase of a circuit scale, to reduce arithmetic amounts, and to reduce the deterioration of a sound quality even at a low bit rate.
CONSTITUTION: This device is equipped with an encoder 63 which resolves a digital signal into plural frequency band components, obtains signal components in plural two-dimensional blocks related with time and frequencies, and quantizes and information-compresses the signal components for each two-dimensional block, and a decoder 73 which expands the information-compressed signal components in the two-dimensional blocks by using the information compression parameter of each two-dimensional block. Those encoder 63 and decoder 73 have a mode for operating recording and/or reproduction at plural information bit rates, and at least the frequency width of the two-dimensional blocks related with time and frequencies is made different between at least the two modes.
