Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a disazo compound which can give an electrophotographic photoreceptor which is excellent in dispersibility in resin, can form a carrier when irradiated with visible light and has excellent sensitivity, by reacting a specified rhodanine derivative with a specified azo compound.

CONSTITUTION: A rhodanine derivative of formula I [wherein X is an alkylene or a (substituted) arylene] is reacted with an azo compound of formula II [wherein Z and Y are each an alkylene or a (substituted) arylene] to produce a disazo compound of formula III (wherein X, Y and Z are as defined above), having a rhodanine derivative at the center (e.g., a compound of formula IV). The disazo compound obtained in this way can give an electrophotographic photoreceptor having excellent dispersibility in resin, can form a carrier when irradiated with visible light and has an excellent sensitivity.
