Abstract:
PURPOSE:To attain high brightness with a thin type and to enhance reliability by providing tubular light sources respectively on two adjacent sides of a light transmission plate. CONSTITUTION:The light transmission plate 8 of a square shape consisting of, for example, an acrylic plate is disposed on the rear surface of a liquid crystal display body 1. The tubular light sources 9, 10 of a discharge type consisting of, for example, cathode ray tubes, are provided in proximity to the ends of the adjacent two sides of this light transmission plate 8. The respective tubular light sources 9, 10 are so disposed that the sides in proximity to each other are a high-voltage input side and the other end sides are the ground. Inverters 11 are disposed in the proximate positions of the respective tubular light sources 9, 10. Then, the formation of the device to a smaller thickness is allowed by adopting a ride light system. In addition, the higher brightness than the brightness of the device constituted by using one piece of tubular light source is attained. The tubular light sources 9, 10 are disposed to an approximately L shape, by which the succeeding use of the device is allowed even if a defect arises in the one tubular light source during the course of use.
