Abstract:

NEW MATERIAL:The diterpene compound of formula.

USE: The compound exhibits excellent inhibiting action against Gram-positive bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis, etc., and is useful as a suppressing agent of the bacteria.

PREPARATION: The compound of formula can be prepared by disintegrating and homogenizing a certain kind of sponge (e.g., common sponge grown in Okinawa Prefecture, Japan), extracting with proper solvent and purifying by column chromatography.
