To obtain a gene useful for easily producing a desired quantity of trehalose synthesis enzyme and capable of coding for enzymatic activity of trehalose synthesis from a microorganism belonging to the genus Pseudomonas as a bacterium producing a trehalose synthesis enzyme.
This DNA fragment capable of coding for a polypeptide which exhibits enzymatic activity of trehalose synthesis (e.g. DNA capable of coding for an amino acid sequence shown by the formula) is obtained from, e.g. Pseudomonas sp. F1 stock (FERM P-14747) as a bacterium producing a trehalose synthesis enzyme by the hybridization cloning and PCR methods. A desired quantity of trehalose synthesis enzyme can be obtained by introducing the DNA fragment, connected to an adequate vector, in a host microorganism to culture the transformant.
