PURPOSE: To generate dot arrays of transposition and shadowing modified dot pattern data, array by array, from a 1st dot array on a print start side by using an expansion memory with a small capacity.
CONSTITUTION: Reference dot array data and data obtained by shifting the data downward by one dot are ORed (S51), and the result and data obtained by shifting the result upward by one dot are ORed to obtain new reference dot array data (S52). The same processes as S51-S52 are performed for the result obtained by performing the same process as S51 for 1st left adjacent dot array data S51 to obtain new 1st left adjacent dot array data (S53-S55). The same process as S51 is performed for the result obtained by shifting 2nd left adjacent dot array data downward by one dot to obtain new 2nd left adjacent dot array data (S56-S57). The new reference, new 1st and 2nd left adjacent, and right adjacent dot array data are ORed and the original reference dot array data are exclusively ORed to generate transposition and shadowing modified dot data of the reference dot array (S58-S59).
