To ensure the airtightness in a valve system cam chamber by effectively utilizing an integral camshaft holder, and surely keep a space for housing a functional component of an engine in the upper pat of a cylinder head with increase in total height of the engine avoided.
This DOHC type engine E has the integral camshaft holder 29 formed by integratedly connecting plural bearing parts 29a supporting a suction camshaft 33 and an exhaust camshaft 34 with a connecting part 29b on the inside of the valve system cam chamber 25 partitioned with the cylinder head 12 and a head cover 13. The lower edge of the outer peripheral part of the head cover 13 is supported by the top surface of the cylinder head 12 through a first seal member 37, the lower edge of a recessed part 13a formed in the central part of the head cover 13 is supported by the top surface of the integral camshaft holder 29 through a second seal member 38, and thereby, the recessed part 13a of the head cover 13 is utilized as a space for housing fuel piping 39, and the valve system cam chamber 25 can be sealed from the atmosphere without increasing the total height of the engine E.
