To reduce the occurrence of stripelike density unevenness in recording where half-tone representation is frequently used by a method wherein a recording head is moved in the horizontal scanning direction at intervals each in the minimum multiple of an interval between dots, and dot recording is made with each of recording elements of the recording head in the vertical scanning direction at the rate of one dot in a specified number of dots.
A recording head is movably arranged in the direction wherein recording elements are arranged in a row, and an interval between each of recording elements of the recording head is made N times (N is a positive number in N≥2) the minimum interval between dots to be recorded on a recording medium. On executing recording operation, while the recording head is moved in the horizontal scanning direction at an interval of M times (M is a positive number becoming an irreducible fraction N/M) the minimum interval between dots during the recording medium passes one time against the recording head, dot recording is made with each of the recording elements of the recording head in the vertical scanning direction at the rate of one dot in R dots (R is a positive number in R≥2), and thereby recording setting positions against the basic resolution can be changed in odd number lines and even number lines in the horizontal scanning line.
