PURPOSE: To provide a dummy bar which has recessed parts at the position corresponding to the projections of free projecting parts on a flexible sheet and is suitable to the continuous casting apparatus for thin band steel having small radius of curvature and can execute the stable operation and has simple structure.

CONSTITUTION: The dummy bar 1 has the flexible plate 2 composed of spring steel and a dummy bar head 3 is fixed to one end of the plate 2. Further, the plate 2 is fixed to a slit 3a of the head 3. Then, in the plate 2, recessed parts 4-7 disposed in four rows in the longitudinal direction, is provided and the adjacent two rows of the recessed parts 4, 5 and 6, 7 have mutually shifted pitch, and in the interval between the recessed parts, rectangular contacting members 8 at each side of the plate 2 are fixed. Further, the members 8 are projected so as to exceed the recessed parts 4-7 with the projecting parts 10 and thereat, mutually supported with an intermediate plates 11. In the above constitution, even in the case of the inner part of a strand guiding part having small radius of curvature, the dummy bar 1 can freely be suited to this strand by guiding the projecting parts 10, 10a without touching in the inner part of this recessed part.
