To provide a device which enables the escaping travel to a neighboring station even in case that some batteries are disabled in the case where batteries are used for a hybrid rolling stock where a diesel rail-car and an electric rolling stock are united together.
In this controller for the power converter of a rolling stock, two or more pieces of batteries are connected in series to make one unit, and two or more units are connected in parallel to constitute a battery device. Moreover, in one unit, a semiconductor switch is inserted in series with a battery, and in case an abnormality occurs in the battery during normal operation, the unit containing the abnormal battery can be electrically cut off. Furthermore, in one unit, a parallel connection body of a resistor and a switch is inserted in series with the battery and the semiconductor switch, and also when connecting two or more units in parallel in the first place, they are connected via the above resistor, and after the voltage is balanced, the resistor is short-circuited, thereby preventing the deterioration of the battery.
