This electric power steering device comprises a steering wheel 5 operated by a driver, a steering shaft 4 connected to the steering wheel 5 at one end to transmit steering force from the steering wheel 5 to a steering gear mechanism, a steering column 6 provided around the steering shaft 4, and installed to a dashboard 9 at a lower part, a power assist part 2 provided around the steering column 6 at a lower part close to its installation part to the dashboard 9, the electric motor 3 as a power generating source forming a power assist part 2, and a plate-shaped cover 1 provided at an outer circumferential part of the electric motor 3 to shield radial heat from the electric motor 3.
