Abstract:

PURPOSE: To lower the cost of an apparatus and make the apparatus compact by connecting an igniter of a discharge lamp to a rectifying diode, a capacitor, a thyrister, a coupling coil, and a flywheel diode in specified way.

CONSTITUTION: Low frequency alternating current with rectangular waveform of an inverter 15 is half-wave rectified by a rectifying diode 28 and the output current is led to a capacitor 25 through a resistor 29 to charge the capacitor. Meanwhile, when a thyrister 26 is turned on by an arc ignition signal from a thyrister controlling circuit 38, the charged electric charges in the capacitor 25 are discharged through a primary coil 24a of a coupling coil 24 and the thyrister 26 and the capacitor is reversely charged due to the inductance of the coil 24. When the polarity of the inverter 15 is reversed, the diode 28 is turned off and the reversely charged electric charges of the capacitor 25 are discharged through a flywheel diode 27 and the coil 24a and reverse bias is applied to the thyrister 26 by the diode 27 and the diode is turned off.
