To provide a small-sized and low-loss electrical power converter which materializes a function of motor drive by a plurality of power sources without the use of a DC/DC converter and also achieves electric power transfer from a fuel cell to a battery even when motor electric power is 0 or extremely small; and also to provide a control technique for the electrical power converter.
The electrical power converter 30, which generates the drive voltage of an AC motor 20 by generating/synthesizing pulses from the output voltage of a plurality of DC power sources 10a, 10b to drive the AC motor 20, includes: a motor voltage command value generating means which obtains a motor voltage command value, based on a power source power command value commanding a charging amount from one DC power source to another DC power source, on a motor torque command value and on a motor rotation speed; a voltage distribution means for distributing the motor voltage command value into the voltage command value corresponding to a plurality of DC power sources; and a pulse generating means 47 for generating the output voltage pulse of the electrical power converter, based on the voltage command value.
