Abstract:

PURPOSE: The titled composition having good processability and high electrical conductivity, made by incorporating a specified quantity of specified carbon fibers and a specified quantity of specified metal fibers into a thermoplastic resin.

CONSTITUTION: An electrically conductive resin composition made by incorporating 5W10vol% metal fibers (A) (e.g. fibers of Al, Cu or Ni) having a length of 1W4mm and a diameter of 100μm or smaller, and 5W20vol% carbon fibers (B) having a length of 2W10mm and a diameter of 5W20μm into a thermoplastic resin (e.g. PE, PP or PVC). In this composition, fibers B are intertwined with each other to be dispersed in mesh form in the resin and flow simultaneously with the resin without separating therefrom. Fibers A will get intertwined with these meshes, and therefore the separation of fibers A from the resin will also be prevented, resulting in good processability of the composition. Since fibers B play a part as well in improving the electrical conductivity, an aimed conductivity and good moldability can be obtained even with a small quantity of fibers A. Furthermore, fibers B will give mechanical reinforcement to improve the impact resistance of the molded part.
