PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electro-optic device capable of stably holding a display element while ensuring cooling performance for the display element and a projection type image display apparatus using the same.SOLUTION: An electro-optic device 600 includes: a DMD 60 that generates a beam of image light by spatial-modulating a beam of light; a metal holding fitting 602 for holding a display element; a heatsink 622 for releasing heat from the display element; and a light shielding plate 630 for shielding undesired light from entering. The electro-optic device has: a first contact part where the DMD and the metal holding fitting are in contact with each other; a second contact part where the DMD and the heatsink are in contact with each other; and a third contact part where the DMD and the light shielding plate are in contact with each other. The heat conductivity of the first contact part is smaller than the heat conductivity of the second contact part and the third contact part.
