PURPOSE: To provide an electrochemical cell excellent in reliability by specifying materials of a solid electrolyte and an interconnector to prevent the damage to the cell at the time of steam electrolyzing at a high temp., in the solid electrolyte type electrochemical cell.
CONSTITUTION: This electrochemical cell is provided with the solid electrolyte 1, a pipe or plate with which the solid electrolyte 1 and the interconnector 4 are alternately connected, an air electrode 2 on one surface thereof and a fuel electrode 2 on another surface. In the electrochemical cell, the material of the solid electrolyte is a Y2O3 stabilized ZrO2 and the material of the interconnector is La1-xSrxCr1-yCoyO3 (where, x=0.1-0.3, y=0.01-0.1). The electrochemical cell in used for generating hydrogen 7 by passing a steam 8 through the fuel electrode 3 side and decomposing the steam at about 1000°C and, at the time of the decomposition, the interconnector 4 is exposed in a reducing atmosphere and expanded. Then, by using the material for the interconnector 4, the interconnector 4 is decreased in expansion, has coefficient of the thermal expansion approaching that of Y2O3 stabilized ZrO2 and is prevented from the damage.
