Abstract:

To provide an electrode for producing chlorine which is low in chlorine overvoltage and also excellent in durability.

The electrode for producing chlorine is composed of: an electrode base material made of a valve metal; and a covering layer for covering the electrode base material. In the covering layer, metal platinum is used as a matrix, and dispersed grains made of any of iridium or ruthenium or the oxide thereof are dispersed into the matrix. The content of the dispersed grains is preferably controlled to 0.5 to 80% by weight.
