PURPOSE: To enable mode changing to be carried out without increasing the number of switches by selecting the modes which are changed by the depression time of an operating switch during stopwatch operation in an electronic watch having a stopwatch function.
CONSTITUTION: When an operating switch S1 is depressed for more than 2sec at the time of a normal time display mode D1, it changes over to a standby mode D2 of stopwatch. Further, every time when the switch S1 is pushed, the mode changes- over to a continuation mode D3, stop mode D4. If the switch S1 is depressed for more than 1sec and less than 2sec at the time of the continuation mode D3, stop mode D4 and 1/10sec display mode D5, the mode returns to the standby mode D2 of the stopwatch and further when the switch is depressed for more than 2sec continuously, the mode returns from the standby mode D2 to the normal time display mode D1.
