To provide electrophoresis particles which exhibit an electrostatic property and dispersibility even when no static charging agent and dispersing agent are added to the electrophoresis particles and a method for manufacturing the same.
The electrophoresis particles are constructed by fixing at least an amphiphilic residue originating from a reactive surfactant to the surfaces of pigment particles, pigment coated polymer particles or polymer particles colored with a dye. Here, the reactive functional group of the reactive surfactant is an unsaturated hydrocarbon group, its hydrophobic part is a 4-30C aliphatic hydrocarbon chain, and its hydrophilic part is an ionic functional group. Further, the method for manufacturing the electrophoresis particles includes a step to make the particle surface adsorb at least the reactive surfactant and a step to fix the amphiphilic residue originating from the reactive surfactant to the particle surface with a chemical reaction of the reactive functional group possessed by the reactive surfactant.
