PURPOSE: To reduce the moire and the edge effect while holding a required resolution with a simple constitution, by allowing a liquid crystal to function as a low pass filter provided in the optical path.
CONSTITUTION: A liquid crystal 4 having the light scattering property is used as the low pass filter to generate a geometric pattern. For the purpose of obtaining a specific geometric pattern, opaque parts of the liquid crystal are raised into a geometric arrangement on the surface of the liquid crystal cell 4. For example, 4 stages of cloudiness are caused on the liquid crystal cell 4 to generate 4-stage filter characteristics in accordance with application of a voltage. Since the transmittance is changed in accordance with 4-stage filter states of the liquid crystal cell 4, an exposure compensation quantity corresponding to the filter state is operated by a microcomputer 30 to make the quantity of light constant. Thus, the moire and the edge effect are reduced while holding a required resolution with a simple constitution.
