PURPOSE: To obtain stable image quality continuously from an initial period by adding a polarity control agent to an initial carrier liquid and not adding this polarity control agent to a carrier liquid for replenishment at the time of continuous use.
CONSTITUTION: This liquid developer is used in such a state that the amt. of the polarity control agent is maintained at the extent of attaining stability during continuous use by adding the polarity control agent only to the carrier liquid for initial mixing at the time of initial mixing of the carrier liquid and toners. The amt. of the polarity agent to be added into the carrier liquid in the initial state is adequately 0.01 to 8wt.%, more preferably 0.05 to 5wt.% of the weight over the entire part of the developer. Coloring agents and electrically insulating carrier liquids which are known hitherto are usable for the coloring agents and electrically insulating carrier liquid constituting the main components of the liquid developer. Further, a resin may be used in combination in order to accelerate the dispersibility of the developer or improving the fixability of the coloring agents in addition to the coloring agents and electrically insulating carrier liquid.
