Abstract:

PURPOSE: To extend the luminance reproducing range to improve the gradation reproducibility and prevent the occurrence of photographic fog, by performing irradiation of an optical image and corona discharge in specific methods when they are performed simultaneously.

CONSTITUTION: A photoreceptor 1 constituted by laminating a conductive layer, a photoconductive layer, an insulating layer successively is used, and the surface of the photoreceptor 1 is charged uniformly by a primary charger 23 having the positive polarity after the past record of the photoreceptor 1 is erased by an AC discharger 21 and a pre-exposure lamp 22. The optical image of an original on an original platen 3 is formed on the photoreceptor 1 by an original exposure means 4, and simultaneously, a latent image is formed by a corona discharger 24 having the negative polarity. In this case, the process where corona discharge with the opposite polarity is performed while irradiating the optical image, the process where the optical image is irradiated while reducing or stopping the action of corona discharge upon the surface of the photoreceptor 1, and the process where the surface of the photorecetor is subjected to the same corona discharge as said corona discharge with the opposite polarity while controlling is discharge quantity are performed.
