PURPOSE: To obtain an electrophotographic sensitive body excellent in electrophotographic characteristics such as chargeability and sensitivity by using SiO2 as the undercoating layer.
CONSTITUTION: An SiO2 thin film as the undercoating layer 5 is formed on a conductive substrate 1 of aluminum etc. The SiO2 thin film can be formed in the vapor phase by sputtering, CVD, electron-beam deposition, ion plating, etc. A carrier generating layer 3 is formed on the undercoating layer 5, and then a carrier transfer layer 4 is formed on the carrier generating layer 3. Since SiO2 as inorg. matter is used for the undercoating layer 5, the undercoating layer 5 is formed in the vapor phase, a thin film having ≤1μm thickness is formed on the substrate, the carrier generating layer 3 and carrier transfer layer 4 laminated on the undercoating layer are not eluted by a solvent, and the solvent capable of being used in the carrier generating layer 3 and carrier transfer layer 4 are widely selected.
