PURPOSE: To prevent transverse oscillation of a riding cage by absorbing a transverse fluctuating load component caused by curving a rail for guiding the riding cage of an elevator.
CONSTITUTION: In a guide device 4, a guide piece brought into contact with a rail is supported by a spring. Electromagnets 12A, 12B for attracting the rail 3 are provided in a guide piece supporting member 7 which is rotatably supported to a guide piece bed 8 by a pin 9. Further, the guide device 4 is provided with a control unit not shown in the drawing, that is, sensor not shown in the drawing for detecting displacement of the guide piece supporting member 7 by distortion of the rail 3 at the time of lifting a riding cage 2 and a controller for controlling an excitation condition of the electromagnets 12A, 12B, for instance, direction and intensity of a current so as to eliminate this detected displacement. In this way, a transverse fluctuating load component by curving the rail for guiding the riding cage is absorbed by elasticity of the guide piece and prevented from being transmitted the riding cage, and an elevator having a comfortable feeling to ride with no transverse oscillation can be obtained.
