PURPOSE: To enable a person in a basket to escape without being locked in by providing a connection means for bypassing a safety operation circuit and connecting wiring when the safety operation circuit fails, an alarming means for alarming a fault and a slow operation means for moving the basket to a closest floor based on an alarm.

CONSTITUTION: When the safety operation circuit 7 fails during the operation of an elevator, the coil part 9 of an electromagnetic switch A is degaussed, a normally closed contact point A2 11 is closed, a fault lamp FL 12 is lighted and the basket is stopped in the middle of an elevating/lowering path. The person in the basket turns on an escape operation input switch EOS 15. Then, when one of up/down switches 19 and 20 is pressed, a current is made to flow to a motor 1 and the basket is moved slowly for safety to the closest floor by the low speed rotation of the motor 1. When the basket comes to a door zone, the rotation of the motor 1 is stopped and the basket is stopped at the closest floor. Then, when the door of the elevator is opened, the person can escape from the basket.
