PURPOSE: To obtain esters and amides of substituted indenyl acetic acids which are effective in eliminating and inhibiting polyps and are useful as active ingredients of medicines which do not cause any severe side effects such as ulcer formation.
CONSTITUTION: These esters and amides are compounds of formula I [n is an integer of at least 2; Q is a deprotonized residue of a polymer or a body with a huge molecular structure having molecular weight of at least 1,000 and at least two primary and/or secondary amino- and/or hydroxyl-groups; R1 is H, low alkyl, haloalkyl; R2 is H, alkyl; R3 and R4 are H, (halo)alkyl, acyloxy, alkoxy, NO2, NH2, acylamino, SH, OH, halogen, cycloalkoxy or the like; R5 is alkylsulfenyl, alkylsufinyl, alkylsufonyl] e.g. poly[5-methoxy-2-methyl-1-(P- methyl sulfinylbenzylidene)-3-indenylacetin]chitosan. The compounds of the formula I of which Q is a water swelling polymer having amino group are produced by a method represented in a reaction formula.
