Abstract:

To provide a method of evaluating the hydrogen embrittlement susceptibility of a steel product.

This evaluation method for the hydrogen embrittlement susceptibility of a steel product is featured in such a way that the level of hydrogen adsorbed to the surface of the steel product in an electrolytic solution is measured by an electrochemical technique, that, when the level of the adsorbed hydrogen is higher, the amount of the hydrogen creeping into the steel product from the external environment is judged to be much and that the possibility of the hydrogen embrittlement susceptibility is judged to be high. In addition, this evaluation method for the hydrogen embrittlement susceptibility of a steel product is featured in such a way that the steel product is loaded with a set low strain rate or tensile stress in an electrolytic solution, that a potential is changed on the reduction side from Ecorr, that the fracture of the steel product or the minimum value of a maximum stress is measured and that, when the value is smaller, the hydrogen embrittlement susceptibility is judged to be high.
