To provide an exhaust emission control device for an outboard motor having a compact structure, capable of precluding a deterioration due to the heat of a catalyst or due to water intrusion.
The exhaust emission control device of the outboard motor is composed of a first exhaust pipe 22 for exhausting the exhaust gas from an engine to an expansion chamber 36 in a drive shaft housing 20, a U-turn type exhaust passage 30 installed at the exhaust gas outlet 22a of the first exhaust pipe and exhausting the gas to the expansion chamber 36 upon making U-turn to the periphery of the first exhaust pipe 22, the catalyst 32 installed in a position inside the U-turn type exhaust passage 30 and at the periphery of the first exhaust pipe 22, and a second exhaust pipe 28 for exhausting the exhaust gas out of the expansion chamber 36, wherein the exhaust gas inlet 28a of the second exhaust pipe is located below the bottom of the U-turn type exhaust passage 30.
